DIRECTOR OF QUALITY ASSURANCE

Job Description

Responsible for establishing a corporate quality assurance system and team that promotes customer satisfaction and that positively impacts the financial performance of Independent Can Company. Champion continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives to establish an effective Quality Management System (QMS); initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company’s product lines. Educate and train employees as to their impact in the quality management system.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Develop, implement, manage and integrate a QMS for manufacturing plants.
  • Serve as the primary quality control resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Manage quality control personnel on a day-to-day basis for multiple locations.
  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer.
  • Establish and implement metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound product quality decisions
  • Perform root-cause analysis and other problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Establish collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality.
  • Analyze customers’ product specifications to establish efficient, cost-effective requirements for ease of manufacture and reproducibility.
  • Develop quality planning methods for all product lines.
  • Develop process certification standards and assist in process certification.
  • Review customer purchase orders, contracts and change requests and ensure that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans.
  • Interact with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establish feedback with manufacturing and development personnel.
  • Oversee calibration and testing programs.
  • Report to management on quality issues, trends and losses.
  • Review suppliers purchase orders and establish supplier quality requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits.
  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.

Desired Skills and Experience

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Business Administration

• 10+ years experience in QA systems implementation and management with 5 years as a CQE/CQM in a medium-size manufacturing environment, preferably in maufacturing or metals industries.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.

• Experience in designing and implementing quality systems.

• Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation.

• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

MACHINE OPERATORS

Independent Can Company, a global manufacturing, family-owned company with annual sales of 80 million dollars, is seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our team.  The successful candidates must be self-starters and have hands-on industrial background in the manufacturing field.

 

The Company will establish a training program based on the experience the individuals bring to the job.  These individuals will be expected to operate can-making equipment, part-stamping presses or metal slitters to specified standards.  Previous can manufacturing experience is a plus.  Overtime is a requirement of the job.  The successful candidates must have good communication skills, the ability to work well with others and an excellent attendance record.

 

The salary range for this position is $11.00 – $17.00+ per hour for qualified operators or commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The maximum salary for this position is $17.00 + per hour.  You will receive daily overtime pay for all hours worked over eight.  Company benefits include Profit Sharing Plan, 401(k), medical/dental/vision/life insurance, tuition reimbursement, 10 paid holidays and two weeks vacation annually.

MECHANIC - LITHOGRAPHY

Job Description

 

Responsible for repairs and maintenance on production machinery and mechanical equipment such as printing presses, coating lines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, skid tumbler, band saw, ovens, incinerators. All ancillary equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Works with Lithography Engineer on major breakdowns and overhaul.
  • Trains, guides, and works with operators in a positive, cooperative, and mentoring environment.
  • Maintains all standard maintenance procedures with qualified log.
  • Maintains supply of parts.
  • Responsible for quality production and remedial action to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • May be required to research and order specific parts or services.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  2. Must be knowledgeable on all equipment such as pneumatic equipment, power transmission principles, conveyor systems so as to have the ability to set up, adjust, repair, and maintain all equipment within a proficient time frame.
  3. Ability to read precise measuring equipment and drawings as well as excellent trouble-shooting skills.
  4. Be willing to work any shift and hours necessary to meet the customer’s needs.
  5. Ability to work under pressure and be a self-starter.
  6. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

 

Education and Experience

COATER OPERATOR - LITHOGRAPHY

Experience required Wagner and KBA Spot Coater

Job Description

 Responsible for set up and operation of the Wagner and KBA Spot Coater.  Other responsibilities include the application of coatings and varnishes to metal sheets that are cured through an LTG oven. In addition, the Operator will be responsible for monitoring of the coater film weights and registration of various coatings, manually and automatically

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Train and direct personnel assigned to the coater line.
  • Produce work of the highest quality in an efficient cost-effective manner.
  • Reporting and deviations from quality standards.
  • Minor mechanical repairs.
  • Report mechanic problems.
  • Wash-up and change-over of the coater.
  • Change-over coater roller.
  • Maintain and lubricate equipment.
  • Responsible for start-up, adjustment and shut-down of LTG Oven.

 

Job Requirements

LITHO SHIFT SUPERVISOR

 

LITHO SHIFT SUPERVISOR

The successful candidate carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.  This position supervises, within the limits of Company policy, the Coaterman, Quality Control and Ink/Coating Mixer, Stacker Operator, Forklift Driver and Pressman on assigned shift.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Will be required to fill in for vacations, absence and mechanical problems for the Director and Assistant Director of Lithography as needed. This will involve 2nd and/or 3rd shifts.
  • Trouble shoot press and coater problems as needed; could be mechanical or technical in  nature.
  • Maintain lithography schedules as set by the Director of Lithography.
  • Contact suppliers and purchase materials as instructed by the Directory of Lithography.
  • Fully understand the theory, functionality and operational characteristics of the metal decorating equipment.
  • Capable of mixing and matching colors in both inks and coatings.
  • Maintain and monitor the hazardous waste program.  Train employees in proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain and monitor the quality control program under the supervision of the Technical Directory of Lithography to ensure the high quality standards and procedures of are maintained.
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating existing test results and helping establish additional test if required.
  • Manage retain submissions and HFI processes.
  • Be responsible for efficient operation and meeting the production goals of all assigned jobs.
  • Be responsible for the safe, efficient work habits of all assigned personnel, proper operation and maintenance of all assigned equipment.
  • Be responsible for the training of all assigned personnel.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Has an overall supervisory responsibility for the lithography, purchasing and all can manufacturing operations. In cooperation and consultation with the executive team is responsible for strategy, planning and execution for the Company’s manufacturing operations. The incumbent is responsible for enforcement of all state and local regulations as they pertain to the operation and safety of all employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the management of all plant operations for each manufacturing unit.
  • Responsible for the management and proper training of all manufacturing personnel.

PRINTING PRESS OPERATOR

(Large Format) 

The successful candidate must be a qualified Pressman experienced in operating 36” and 45” presses. Experience in operating console controlled Planeta or Rapida presses is helpful or printing sheet-fed metal. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparation, setup, running and routine maintenance for 4-and 6-color lines with UV curing inter-decks and trailing UV coaters. Overtime is a condition of employment and is paid after 8 hours per day. Successful candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities also include the absolute assurance of product quality standards that are in strict and complete compliance with Company goals and the customers’ expectations. This position requires someone who is proactive and willing to commit the hours necessary to meet the customers’ needs while mentoring and training the personnel assigned to the team.

COATER OPERATOR (LITHOGRAPHY)

(Experience Required – Wagner Spot Coater)

The Lithography Division of Independent Can Company, a metal decorator located in Belcamp, (Harford County) Maryland, is seeking an experienced Coater Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for set up and operation of the Wagner Spot Coater. The Operator is responsible for the application of coatings and varnishes to metal sheets that are cured through an LTG oven. In addition, the Operator will be responsible for monitoring of the coater film weights and registration of various coatings. This is an hourly non-exempt position subject to overtime and reports to the Lithography Supervisor. This person should have good mechanical and problem-solving skills

VANDALIA,OHIO LITHOGRAPHY - PRESS OPERATOR

VANDALIA, OHIO LITHOGRAPHY – PRESS OPERATOR

The Pressman is responsible for preparation and operation of four-color and six-color lithographic lines, trailing coater, and U. V. drying ovens. This position is an hourly non-exempt position and subject to overtime.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Must be able to interpret orders with special setups and procure necessary plates, inks, color samples and other necessary supplies.
  • Responsible for setting up complete press in very close tolerances (.001”), including mechanical gauging, setting of press plates, blanket, ink, and water rollers when necessary.
  • Responsible for function of complete line of equipment as well as feeder and stacker personnel.
  • Trains and directs personnel assigned to his/her line of equipment
  • Must indicate during run spoiled sheets that are to be either “kept separate” or discarded as spoilage.
  • Adjust and check U.V. oven settings for correct cure and checks this during run.
  • Adjusts register and develops correct lay and color for supervisor’s approval.
  • Is responsible for checking sheets at discharge end for proper curing and color control and ensuring that ink and water fountains are supplied.
  • Accumulates all required color samples of new jobs or replacement samples of repeat jobs for files.
  • Checks recorded information on complete work order for correct sheetage and size, etc.
  • Responsible for maintenance and lubrication of equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to handle automatic feeder, print press, and hand tools.
  • Will be required to handle printing inks and wash-up solvents.

  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English; possess the ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals using a metric scale.
  • Must have the ability to compute rate, ration and percent.
  • Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardization situations.
  • Must have a current and valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 60 lbs.
  • Vision Requirements include: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

VANDALIA,OHIO LITHOGRAPHY - COATER OPERATOR

VANDALIA, OHIO LITHOGRAPHY – COATERMAN

The Lithography Coaterman is responsible for set-up and operation of a Thermal Coater.  This position is hourly non-exempt and subject to overtime.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Responsible for set up and operation of coater line.
  • Train and direct personnel assigned to the coater line.
  • Must produce work of the highest quality in an efficient, cost effective manner.
  • Must keep equipment and coater area clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for adjusting and checking the oven setting thermal and U.V., to assure proper bake.
  • Report any deviations from quality standards.
  • Report any mechanical problems.
  • Must wash up and change over the coat with the aid of the Stacker Operator.
  • Change coater roller with the aid of the Stacker Operator.
  • Maintain and lubricate equipment.
  • Responsible for start-up, adjustment and shutdown of Oven.
  • Make mire mechanical repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to mechanical moving parts.  The noise level is loud.  The Coaterman handles coating materials, wash-up solvents, and loads of metal weighing approximately 4,000 pounds on conveyors.
