ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR OF LITHOGRAPHY - MARYLAND

 

SUMMARY:  Responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination and directing of all internal metal decorating operations.  Responsible for assisting in the efficient production at the lowest cost consistent with established quality standards and volume requirements for timely supply to the can manufacturing operation as well as outside customers.  This is an exempt position with supervisory responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Trouble shoot press or coater problems as needed; could be mechanical or technical in nature.
  • Maintain production schedules as established and modified by the Technical Director.
  • Contact suppliers and purchase materials as instructed by the Technical Director.
  • Be familiar with and capable of carrying out all duties and responsibilities of the Technical Director in his absence.
  • Fully understand the theory, functionality and operational characteristics of the metal decorating equipment.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the litho preventive maintenance program.
  • Be capable of and maintain skills necessary for mixing and matching colors in both inks and

coatings.

  • Organize and monitor the hazardous waste program. Train all employees in proper handling of hazardous waste.
  • Organize and monitor the quality control program under the supervision of the Director to ensure the high quality standards of Independent Can Company are maintained.
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating existing test results and helping establish additional

rests if required.

  • Assist with the implementation of a safety program for the Lithography Department and ensure  full compliance with appropriate OSHA, State and other federal requirements.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by the Technical Director or General Manager, Litho.
  • Enforce and control AIB and GMP procedures and standards.
  • Maintain and closely observe reporting documents along with required QC system controls.
  • Travel is required as needed for this position.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Directly supervises employees in the lithography operation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work. This position supervises, within the limits of Company policy, the Coaterman, Quality Control and Ink/Coating Mixer, Stacker Operator, Forklift Drivers and Pressman on all assigned shifts.

TRAFFIC COORDINATOR - MARYLAND

SUMMARY:  The Traffic Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the traffic function.  Responsible for all aspects of logging orders, routing, shipping, and the tracking of outbound orders.  Informs transporters for freight pick-ups and ensures that cargo is routed appropriately.  Prepares and verifies bills of ladings.  Duties also include working with forklift drivers to correctly fill customer orders and interface with various departments on all levels.  This position is an hourly position, subject to overtime and reports to the Traffic Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct forklift line drivers as to whether to put cans in stock warehouse, custom warehouse, or loading dock.
  • Determine and advise sales/customer as to the best carrier to use for best service, rate, and delivery time. This is based on experience with the carriers and their performance.
  • Investigate customer discrepancies with order they received. EX:  difference in quantity shipped and quantity received.
  • Work with Production Managers to guarantee the customer’s order is packaged, labeled, and ready for shipping by requested date.
  • Interface with Accounting Department to assure billing, freight charges, and memo log are correctly processed and maintained.
  • Schedule shipment (less than truckload and truckloads) for dispatch or pick-up.
  • Serve as liaison between Sales and Shipping Departments.
  • Communicate with Litho Department as to status and availability of inventory. Complete paperwork, fax to Sales Department, and schedule shipments for pick up.
  • Investigate and correct any issues with freight billing between carrier and customer.
  • Field phone calls from customers to provide them with shipment information when needed.
  • Work with forklift operators to correctly fill customer orders.
  • Routinely verify warehouse inventory and communicate discrepancies with Production Scheduling Department.
  • Verify product availability, prepare orders for pulling, calculate weight, and complete bill of lading for shipping.
  • Prepare freight rates for sales and customers as requested.
  • Audit orders, audit fluid cans, and verify accuracy.
  • Provide export documentation for international shipments.
  • Complete damage claims to carriers for customers’ shipments.
  • Operate computer, fax, calculator, copier, label printer, and other office machines as required.
  • Generate and maintain customer log, order audit log, and shipment error log.
  • Ship, receive, and document UPS shipments.
  • Receive, classify, and direct routine mail and messages, and answer phones.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as required within Shipping Department.
  • Track orders pulled by each employee and maintain daily/monthly performance logs.
  • Other related duties which may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, shipping terminology, basic math, office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Should be able to type accurately at a speed of 45 WPM.
  • Must have above average organizational skills.
  • Must score at least 65% on Math and Reading assessment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent.  Have two to four years of active experience in the Shipping and Receiving field.

MATERIALS PROCUREMENT AND SUPPORT - MARYLAND

SUMMARY:  The Materials Procurement and Support position supports the operations of the Materials Department in a variety of tasks. The employee is primarily responsible for reviewing requirements for Lithography orders received from Sales for accuracy and completeness and creating Lithography bills of material and production orders based on Lithography orders received.  Other duties include procurement related activities with Tier I (non-critical) suppliers, data maintenance of specific items and Bills of Materials in S2K, data entry of production reporting and purchase receipts and data entry of purchase orders.  In addition, the Material Procurement and Support position is responsible for providing support for other functions within the Materials Department and the Materials Manager as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   The Materials Procurement and Support employee will:

 

  • Review for accuracy and completeness all Lithography Orders and Change Orders submitted by Sales.
  • Notify Sales in a timely manner of any discrepancies and questions regarding information submitted by Sales associated with Lithography Orders and Change Orders.
  • Where information or corrections are required by Sales to Lithography Orders and Change Orders, regularly follow up to insure that manufacturing orders are created in a timely manner.
  • Meet daily with the Lithography Capacity Planner to determine the proper facility for lithography/coating of new manufacturing orders along with the scheduled completion date of each new manufacturing order.
  • Maintain accurate Item Master, Bill of Material and Routing/Assembly Instruction records in S2K to support the creation of manufacturing orders and changes to specifications.
  • Determine and apply spoilage factors utilizing a combination of calculations, historical information, sound judgment and knowledgeable resources.
  • Provide a weekly analysis and associated recommendations related to the results of actual vs. planned spoilage factors, Lithography Orders processed and their accuracy, Lithography Order preparation processing time and other metrics as needed.
  • Post manufacturing order completions and purchase order receipts.
  • Negotiate with Tier I suppliers.
  • Add and maintain Purchase Orders.
  • Expedite and de-expedite deliveries as needed.
  • Assist with the taking of annual physical inventory including data entry.
  • Recommend specification changes that improve performance, efficiency, cost and delivery.
  • Attend the weekly Litho Scheduling meeting and supply information regarding pending new Lithography Orders and Change Orders.
  • Assist the Material Planner and Buyer as directed.
  • Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Materials Manager.
  • Coordinate and support the efforts of all other departments and facilities including Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering and Accounting/Finance.

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - MARYLAND

 

This position will report to the Controller and will be responsible for costing data used in our quotation process, month end and year-end accounting closes, various account reconciliations including bank reconciliations, and reporting of financial information used by management, shareholders, auditors, and government agencies.  This salary exempt position is requiring someone who will “roll up their sleeves” with routine interaction and accumulation of data from the manufacturing process and other departments within the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following.

  • Assist, reconcile, compile and perform month-end, quarter and year-end closings.
  • Supervise and review costing data for accuracy in the quotation process.
  • Responsible for credit and collections activities including adherence to established policies.
  • Responsible for maintaining fixed asset records; depreciation and its physical location.
  • Responsible for research (including tax matters), document findings, and communicate matters effectively.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation, reporting and analysis.

LITHO SHIFT SUPERVISOR -MARYLAND

The successful candidate carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.  This position supervises, within the limits of Company policy, the Coaterman, Quality Control and Ink/Coating Mixer, Stacker Operator, Forklift Driver and Pressman on assigned shift. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Will be required to fill in for vacations, absence and mechanical problems for the Director and Assistant Director of Lithography as needed. This will involve 2nd and/or 3rd shifts.
  • Trouble shoot press and coater problems as needed; could be mechanical or technical in nature.
  • Maintain lithography schedules as set by the Director of Lithography.
  • Contact suppliers and purchase materials as instructed by the Directory of Lithography.
  • Fully understand the theory, functionality and operational characteristics of the metal decorating equipment.

  • Maintain and monitor the hazardous waste program.  Train employees in proper handling of hazardous waste.

MACHINE OPERATORS

Independent Can Company, a global manufacturing, family-owned company with annual sales of 80 million dollars, is seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our team.  The successful candidates must be self-starters and have hands-on industrial background in the manufacturing field.

 

The Company will establish a training program based on the experience the individuals bring to the job.  These individuals will be expected to operate can-making equipment, part-stamping presses or metal slitters to specified standards.  Previous can manufacturing experience is a plus.  Overtime is a requirement of the job.  The successful candidates must have good communication skills, the ability to work well with others and an excellent attendance record.

 

The salary range for this position is $11.00 – $17.00+ per hour for qualified operators or commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The maximum salary for this position is $17.00 + per hour.  You will receive daily overtime pay for all hours worked over eight.  Company benefits include Profit Sharing Plan, 401(k), medical/dental/vision/life insurance, tuition reimbursement, 10 paid holidays and two weeks vacation annually.

MECHANIC - LITHOGRAPHY

Job Description

 

Responsible for repairs and maintenance on production machinery and mechanical equipment such as printing presses, coating lines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, skid tumbler, band saw, ovens, incinerators. All ancillary equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Works with Lithography Engineer on major breakdowns and overhaul.
  • Trains, guides, and works with operators in a positive, cooperative, and mentoring environment.
  • Maintains all standard maintenance procedures with qualified log.
  • Maintains supply of parts.
  • Responsible for quality production and remedial action to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • May be required to research and order specific parts or services.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  2. Must be knowledgeable on all equipment such as pneumatic equipment, power transmission principles, conveyor systems so as to have the ability to set up, adjust, repair, and maintain all equipment within a proficient time frame.
  3. Ability to read precise measuring equipment and drawings as well as excellent trouble-shooting skills.

COATER OPERATOR - LITHOGRAPHY

Experience required Wagner and KBA Spot Coater

Job Description

 Responsible for set up and operation of the Wagner and KBA Spot Coater.  Other responsibilities include the application of coatings and varnishes to metal sheets that are cured through an LTG oven. In addition, the Operator will be responsible for monitoring of the coater film weights and registration of various coatings, manually and automatically

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Train and direct personnel assigned to the coater line.
  • Produce work of the highest quality in an efficient cost-effective manner.
  • Reporting and deviations from quality standards.

PRINTING PRESS OPERATOR

(Large Format) 

The successful candidate must be a qualified Pressman experienced in operating 36” and 45” presses. Experience in operating console controlled Planeta or Rapida presses is helpful or printing sheet-fed metal. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparation, setup, running and routine maintenance for 4-and 6-color lines with UV curing inter-decks and trailing UV coaters. Overtime is a condition of employment and is paid after 8 hours per day. Successful candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities also include the absolute assurance of product quality standards that are in strict and complete compliance with Company goals and the customers’ expectations. This position requires someone who is proactive and willing to commit the hours necessary to meet the customers’ needs while mentoring and training the personnel assigned to the team.

COATER OPERATOR (LITHOGRAPHY)

The Lithography Division of Independent Can Company, a metal decorator located in Belcamp, (Harford County) Maryland, is seeking an experienced Coater Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for set up and operation of the Wagner Spot Coater. The Operator is responsible for the application of coatings and varnishes to metal sheets that are cured through an LTG oven. In addition, the Operator will be responsible for monitoring of the coater film weights and registration of various coatings. This is an hourly non-exempt position subject to overtime and reports to the Lithography Supervisor. This person should have good mechanical and problem-solving skills

VANDALIA,OHIO LITHOGRAPHY - PRESS OPERATOR

VANDALIA, OHIO LITHOGRAPHY – PRESS OPERATOR

The Pressman is responsible for preparation and operation of four-color and six-color lithographic lines, trailing coater, and U. V. drying ovens. This position is an hourly non-exempt position and subject to overtime.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Must be able to interpret orders with special setups and procure necessary plates, inks, color samples and other necessary supplies.
  • Responsible for setting up complete press in very close tolerances (.001”), including mechanical gauging, setting of press plates, blanket, ink, and water rollers when necessary.
  • Responsible for function of complete line of equipment as well as feeder and stacker personnel.
  • Trains and directs personnel assigned to his/her line of equipment
  • Must indicate during run spoiled sheets that are to be either “kept separate” or discarded as spoilage.
  • Adjust and check U.V. oven settings for correct cure and checks this during run.
  • Adjusts register and develops correct lay and color for supervisor’s approval.
  • Is responsible for checking sheets at discharge end for proper curing and color control and ensuring that ink and water fountains are supplied.
  • Accumulates all required color samples of new jobs or replacement samples of repeat jobs for files.
  • Checks recorded information on complete work order for correct sheetage and size, etc.
  • Responsible for maintenance and lubrication of equipment.

The Lithography Coaterman is responsible for set-up and operation of a Thermal Coater.  This position is hourly non-exempt and subject to overtime.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for assigned production schedule.
  • Responsible for set up and operation of coater line.
  • Train and direct personnel assigned to the coater line.
  • Must produce work of the highest quality in an efficient, cost effective manner.
  • Must keep equipment and coater area clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for adjusting and checking the oven setting thermal and U.V., to assure proper bake.
  • Report any deviations from quality standards.
  • Report any mechanical problems.
  • Must wash up and change over the coat with the aid of the Stacker Operator.
  • Change coater roller with the aid of the Stacker Operator.
  • Maintain and lubricate equipment.
  • Responsible for start-up, adjustment and shutdown of Oven.
  • Make mire mechanical repairs.

  • Vision Requirements include: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to inspect sheets for quality defects, which requires seeing a scratch or other defect in the coating, or seeing color deviation.

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to mechanical moving parts.  The noise level is loud.  The Coaterman handles coating materials, wash-up solvents, and loads of metal weighing approximately 4,000 pounds on conveyors.
